In 1989, Horst Weierstall and Haris Pellapaisiotis began a collaboration that led to the photographic documentation of Weierstall’s performance Momentum VI. Performer and photographer work together through documentation tools to construct a visual narrative that extends beyond the temporal limits of the live action. Their collaboration registers a transitional moment in the local art scene, in which the relationship between body and space moves away from a representational model and turns toward practices of performance and experiential presence.
Momentum is a series of ephemeral actions that explore the body’s relationship to thresholds, edges, and locations defined by constraints, such as the Green Line. Pellapaisiotis, a photographer with a particular interest in walking narratives and affective mappings, used the camera and the possibilities of photographic manipulation to create documents that introduce questions of spatial aesthetics and mediation.

Invited by Sic. Contemporary Culture to revisit this period and extend their initial encounter, the two artists activate both the interior and exterior spaces of the gallery through methods of dialogue, re-enactment, and documentation. Pellapaisiotis transforms the space into a camera obscura, which will record a performance by Weierstall taking place on Saturday, November 8, at 12:30, while the latter interweaves sound, text, and material into an installation that reflects on interconnectedness.
